About the Designer:
Dr. Yamile Jackson, the inventor of the award-winner The Zaky, is also the designer of the Kangaroo Zak. Inspired on kangarooing her own son in 2001, Zachary, and doing years of research around the world in KMC, and using her PhD in ergonomics and human Factors, she designed the perfect product for high-technology NICUs.
Know the story behind the Kangaroo Zak:
Since the creation of KMC, there was the need to help mothers to hold their babies with the help of a support that keep the baby in the correct kangaroo position. For the designer (our company president) was very difficult to hold her baby for long periods of time (the arms get very tired) and the much needed rest/sleep was not encouraged for fear that the baby changes his/her position and may fall!!!
Dr. Jackson kangarooed her son in 2001 when he was born prematurely weighing less than 2 lbs. She also kangarooed him when the power to the equipment at her hosptial in Houston was shut-down due to the flood caused by Tropical Storm Allison. She later spent years researching what was available worldwide and following ergonomic principles, she designed the Kangaroo Zak to provide the best product possible to complement and work for the needs of parents in the USA.
She learned that several items are used in each culture around the world to provide boundaries to the baby and are comfortable for the one who is holding the baby, however, they are not suitable for the high-tech environments of the NICUs in the USA where the babies are "plugged" to many medical items.
The simplicity and non-gender specific characteristics of the Kangaroo Zak give an extra component for parents and caregivers that provides the tranquility of keeping the baby upright as strictly defined in the different manuals and publications of KMC worldwide. It is easy to handle the baby and place him/her in or out the chest as many times as necessary, and of course, the easy access to vital signs monitoring and stabilization, and even removal of the baby in the hospital setting.
The Kangaroo Zak (named also after Zachary) is the preferred gift to new parents in hospitals - it is time to develop the baby's brain and make him/her feel loved!!
